Fabric care and wash guide
Natural fabrics reward a little care. None of this is complicated, but it makes the difference between a piece that looks new after ten washes and one that does not.
Cotton
Hand wash or gentle machine wash in cold water, separately for the first two washes as natural dyes can bleed slightly. Do not soak coloured pieces for long periods. Dry in shade to keep colours from fading. Iron on medium heat while still slightly damp for the crispest finish.
Muslin
Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Muslin is soft and fine, so avoid wringing — press the water out gently instead. Dry flat or on a padded hanger in shade. Iron on low heat.
Chanderi
Dry clean where possible, especially for pieces with zari or metallic thread work. If hand washing, use cold water and a mild detergent, and do not wring. Dry flat in shade and iron on low heat, ideally with a thin cloth between the iron and the fabric.
Ikkat
Hand wash separately in cold water for the first few washes, as the dye can transfer slightly onto lighter fabrics. Avoid harsh detergents and prolonged soaking. Dry in shade and iron on medium heat.
Lace and hand-finished detailing
Turn pieces with crochet lace or hand-finishing inside out before washing, and avoid pulling on the lace when wet. Air dry rather than using a dryer.
General rules
Avoid direct harsh sunlight for drying coloured pieces. Do not bleach. When in doubt, hand wash cold and dry in shade — it is the safest option across all our fabrics.
